Often, I observe my Interior Design Clients feeling entirely overwhelmed by the numerous ideas, options, and trends available. This leaves them confused, unsure of where to begin or how to integrate everything, which frequently results in mistakes, sometimes costly ones.
I have put together a list of the three most common Interior Design Mistakes I see so often and tips on how to avoid them.
1) Don't Rush.
Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a stunning home! I often meet clients who dive into projects too quickly, make hasty decisions, and then realise they're not thrilled with the outcome.
Embrace the journey—take your time, get comfortable with your space, and live in your property for a while before embarking on major changes.
Explore your options, plan meticulously, and do as much research as you can. Ensure your choices truly reflect your taste, rather than just following trends or snapping up what seems like a bargain. If you are feeling stuck then ask for help.
At Jennifer Mosse Design I do One Off Consultations as well as Full Interior Design Packages so if you just need a little pointing in the right direction or guidance get in touch.
2) Don't Be Afraid of Colour.
I'm not suggesting that you should cover your home in a palette of bold and eccentric colours, but rather to be aware of the wide range of choices available. Sometimes, simply choosing a shade or two darker or lighter than you initially considered, or contrasting the colour of your woodwork with your walls, can significantly transform a room's appearance.
Consider the rooms in a home that are typically the darkest and most plain: for example, the downstairs bathroom, a hallway, or a staircase. These spaces can truly be enhanced with a lively color or an interesting pattern.
Accessories are a fun way of adding colour without the commitment if you aren't convinced. Cushions, throws and artwork can all be found relatively cheaply and are easy to change every now and then for an instant revamp.
If you require assistance or advice on colours, I would be delighted to offer an Interior Design Colour Consultation to guide you in the right direction, so feel free to reach out.

3) Spend your Budget Wisely.
Another mistake I come across time and time again is people thinking ''I cant afford this''. While I am a firm believer that every home should have one or two key pieces that are worth saving up for I also believe that a beautiful home shouldn't cost the earth. My own home is a great example of this. I spend my weekends trawling junk shops, flea markets and auction houses and love a good rummage around the home department in Kitchen, Bedroom & Homeware - TK Maxx UK The high street is full of wonderful pieces and I always keep an eye on what's out there or new in. Be warned the best pieces sell out really quickly.
Here are a few of my favourites for a little bargain or two.

I'd love to help with any Project or Interiors Advice so please do get in touch. I am based in Bath, Somerset but have clients throughout the UK and Ireland and am always delighted to hear from you!
